Modern AV and Control System Upgrade
Gladstone Primary School in Mount Albert, Auckland, New Zealand, sought to elevate its school hall audio, video, lighting, and control systems. The objective was to create an engaging and versatile space for school assemblies, performances, and community events. Bruce Griffin, Gladstone’s Network Manager engaged Matt Tucker and his team at DM Acoustic to design, install and commission the system. Using leading brands Q-SYS, QSC, and Shure distributed by NSL. Matt provided the school with a cutting-edge AV solution by incorporating the user-friendly Q-SYS control interface on iPads, the school ensured an easy-to-operate and immersive experience for all.
Project Scope
Audio System:
Required audio coverage throughout the hall including balcony and stage areas, flexibility to accommodate assemblies, performances and discos and for multiple audio sources.
Video System:
Required to provide high-definition visuals, seamless multimedia content playback, and versatile video switching capabilities.
Lighting System:
Needed to offer dynamic lighting options to enhance the ambiance for different events while being energy-efficient and end user controlled.
Control System:
Aimed to integrate all AV components and provide a simple, centralised control solution for the school hall.
Brands and Technologies Selected
Q-SYS, known for its advanced audio and video processing capabilities, was chosen as the central control and management platform for the entire AV system.
QSC’s reliable and high-quality audio equipment, including GX amplifiers, AP, AD, and E Series speakers was selected to deliver exceptional audio performance.
Shure’s renowned BLX wireless microphone systems were chosen for clear audio transmission and ease of use, ideal for primary school events.
Implementation
Audio System:
QSC’s premium amplifiers and speakers were installed strategically to ensure even sound distribution throughout the primary school hall. Shure wireless microphone systems allowed freedom of movement for speakers and performers, ensuring clear and reliable audio capture. Q-SYS Core processors were integrated to handle audio routing, signal processing, and custom sound presets, allowing optimal audio delivery for every occasion.
Video System:
A high-definition projection system was installed, seamlessly integrated with Q-SYS for smooth video switching and playback. The school hall’s large screen displayed multimedia content with clarity and vividness, enhancing visual experiences during events.
Lighting System:
An energy-efficient LED lighting system with adjustable fixtures was installed, capable of creating dynamic lighting scenes to match the event’s atmosphere. Q-SYS Control offered centralised control over the lighting setup, enabling staff and event organisers to easily adjust lighting presets.
Control System:
Q-SYS Control provided a user-friendly interface accessible on iPads. The intuitive touch controls allowed teachers, staff, and students to manage the AV system effortlessly. With straightforward operations for audio, video, and lighting, events could be orchestrated seamlessly.
