The New Zealand Campus of Innovation and Sport (NZCIS) is a world-class facility designed to nurture elite athletes. From cutting-edge training environments to comfortable accommodations, every detail is meticulously planned. A core component of this world-class experience is the campus-wide audio and video system, seamlessly integrated using the powerful Q-SYS platform. This system was expertly designed and implemented by systems integrator, Automation Associates Commercial.
The Challenge
NZCIS presented a complex audio challenge. The facility encompasses diverse areas, including the Athletes’ Village, the Performance Institute (housing state-of-the-art training zones), and expansive outdoor fields. The system needed to deliver high-quality, zone-specific audio, from clear announcements to immersive sound, while remaining easy to control. The system also needed to integrate with multiple Microsoft Teams Rooms. Reliability was also crucial for this busy sports campus.
The Solution
The Q-SYS Solution: Q-SYS proved to be the ideal solution for NZCIS’s complex audio needs. Two CORE510i processors, configured in a redundant pair setup, managed sophisticated audio routing across the campus. CX-Q network amplifiers powered the speaker network, which included Acoustic Design pendant speakers in open areas and ceiling speakers in gyms and meeting rooms. A critical aspect of the Q-SYS implementation was its advanced Acoustic Echo Cancellation (AEC) functionality. This ensured clear and echo-free audio during video conferencing, particularly vital for the multiple Microsoft Teams Rooms, which leveraged Q-SYS cameras and IO-USB bridges for high-quality video and audio integration. Automation Associates Commercial’s expertise was instrumental in the successful implementation and optimisation of the Q-SYS system, including the fine-tuning of the AEC settings for optimal performance.
